   If you just want to learn for the sake of it you can take private classes or try to learn online for free. Pretty much anyone can learn anything for free these days.

      @Zest @ally I think the community aspect is a really important part of it though, both because it stimulates learning and because it has intrinsic value by itself.

         Speak for yourself, the more humans are around the less I'll tend to learn because the stress of being in a room with a human is incredibly distracting.

         it really depends on what it is. i have learned a lot of skills through stuff online or just fucking around with programs. like thats how i picked up music theory, fl studio, and programming. but for language learning it’s such a huge thing that i cant really keep myself accountable to keep at it constantly. so i feel having an environment where people are expecting me to be there and i lose out if im not there would encourage me to actually get it done. duolingo hasn’t worked for me lol. and as far as music goes i’ll probably just take private lessons

   @ally@allykotetsu.com you pretty clearly seem to dislike american universities, rather than universities as a concept, i pay exactly zero dollars to study

   admittedly, not that many countries have 100% tax funded universities like we do, so in most places you do still have to pay some amount, but most countries have large enough subsidies that the amount you have to pay is extremely small, something no one would ever consider a loan for

   Honestly an apprenticeship or personal research/online courses would serve you better imo.

   Language, arts and such will never die. If you go to college/uni all your gonna do is waste money for an AI to replace your goal job.

      yeah, i try to learn online when i can, that’s how i learned what i know about music theory and FL studio, i’m just really bad about keeping myself accountable. ive tried to learn languages through apps many times and atp i dont think it’s possible for me to do it outside of a classroom environment. i was in high school when covid hit and my grades absolutely tanked because i kept getting distracted and had no motivation nor desire to use Zoom.
      i think like an internship would be a good way to learn some stuff about music, but nothing is going to be as effective for, like, learning to sing as having 1-on-1 lessons would

         I used to sing ironically I'm heavily mute now.

         You need to find the correct teacher for what you aim for is all really. Sometimes they can't teach any more and may need to find a new trainer.

         You can always practice new warm-ups solo with instructional videos though and they too can expand both range and ability.

            As for language, sometimes throwing yourself in the deep end is best, try and talk to someone in their own language using what you know and using a translator to fill the gaps (cross-reference the translation ofc).
